At some point or another we have all experienced the headache that is cleaning glass. Whether it be stubborn residue, smearing or streaks, glass can be temperamental to work with.
It is important to keep your glass and windows clean as it will help improve the visibility out of your vehicle while maintaining its overall appearance.
Here are a few of our top tips for detailing your windows:
Use quality products
It might go without saying but it is important to use a high-quality car glass cleaner that has been formulated to be safe to use on car glass inside and out. Carry out correct technique
As with any part of detailing, employing a good technique is vital for making the job easier. We recommend using two clean microfibre cloths. Spray the glass cleaner into one of the towels and wipe across the glass. This helps manage overspray to other areas of the car. Taking the second, dry cloth you can then buff off the excess product, this will help limit any smearing or streaks on the glass.
Top tip: Clean the interior glass horizontally and clean the outside glass vertically. By cleaning the glass in opposite directions, it will be easier for you to see where the streaks are. This is a key time saving trick if you are a weekend warrior or professional.
How to carry out a deep clean
Sometimes glass can need extra attention due to built up dirt and grime which can cause a film on the glass. This is especially the case for vape or smoke residue. There are vape-designated glass cleaning products on the market which you may wish to try.
Alternative approaches may include using IPA or a steamer to help break through the dirt, grim and film then use a designated glass cleaner like described above.
Add Protection
Once you have your glass clean and crystal clear you may wish to add a layer or protection to the outside glass.
Introducing a layer of protection to your windows will give it hydrophobic properties, meaning it will repel water. This is useful when washing and maintaining your vehicle as well as when driving in wet conditions as the water will fall from the glass surface with ease.
